Frozen Peas.

Title: Frozen Peas.

Not betaed. It is a warning.:)

Brian couldn’t  make himself lift his eyes to look at the face once again. A huge black ugly spot on the pale, almost translucent skin made anger boil deep inside him. He shook the feeling off, stepped aside to let his guest in.

“Molly, what the …?” He started his question for the hundredth time and was fighting the desire to shake her. Hard.

The girl touched his hand and smiled. Brian held his breath: the smile was so familiar, maybe that was why the pain in the not less familiar blue eyes hurt him almost physically.

“Brian.” She all but whispered, her voice soft, calming. “Just tell me where Justin is. I have to talk to him.”

Brian swallowed a growl of frustration. “He is out of town, Molly. Interior design conference in Texas. ”

The smile faded. “Oh.” She rubbed the black eye unconsciously and winced. “Sucks.” She turned away to leave.

“No, no, no.” Brian gripped her wrist. “Not so fast, Molly Taylor.”

“Huh?” She pulled her hand but Brian was an ace in handling with Taylors.

“You settle your ass their on the couch and stay still till my next instructions.” He frowned for more impact. “Got it?”

“Got it.” The teenager nodded and decided to comply without further questions.

“Good girl.” Brian mumbled and left for the kitchen. He got a pack of frozen peas out of the freezer, thanked Justin silently for the “healthier food, for Christ’s sake, Brian”. Because the only other cold thing in their fridge in Justin’s absence was beer. And Brian didn’t want his image of a grown up partner of Molly’s brother to be ruined.

Back in the room, he gave Molly the pack and sat on the edge of the coffee table in front of the girl.

She ouched when the icy plastic touched her face and raised her eyes – well, actually, AN eye by the time – to look into Brian’s.

He fought to not avert his eyes and only voiced one question, the one that had been there for all that time. “Who?”

She sighed and started, “Brian…”

“Who. Did. This?” His tone brooked no argument.

The girl put the pack on her knees, and answered after a long pause, “Dad.”

Brian would choke on the words that were ready to leave his mouth. Only there were no words.

The silence in the room was palpable.

Brian’s hands clenched into fists and the only thing he wanted was that the fists met Craig Taylor’s face. Right fucking now. Instead, among all the questions in his head, he chose another one. “What for?”

Molly shrugged and avoided his stare like she apparently wanted to avoid the question.

“Molly.” Brian’s voice broke a dam.

“I did nothing wrong, Brian. I swear. I was staying the weekend with him. A friend invited me to the movies. I wasn’t even late. I came in time, damn it.”

It didn’t make things any clearer.

Brian repeated insistently, “Molly?”

“Dee gave me a lift. And…kissed me when we were out of the car.”

Brian’s eyebrows climbed up his forehead. Craig was an outstanding asshole, but to hit his daughter for that? “That’s it, Molly?”

She nodded.

Brian decided to try another tactic. He touched girl’s hand and asked softly, “And this Dee, is he some Dean or Dylan? A bad boy from your school? That is why?”

A blue eye full of tears and something else – joy? happiness? pride? – looked at Brian.

“Dee is some Denise, a girl from my softball team.”

This time Brian was about to choke on his own tongue. “A girl?”

Molly shut her lips defensively, almost angrily, but repeated confidently, “A girl.”

What happened probably shouldn’t have happened. Not if Brian wanted to safe the image of a grown up partner of Molly’s brother. He cracked up. He hooted with laughter. He was fucking crying with laughter.

Molly looked hurt, tears welled in her only visible eye,…but not for long. In a second she joined Brian, and Brian could swear a couple of neighbors were about to call the police.

A cartoon and a couple cups of coffee later Molly was tucked under a thick blanket and snoring quietly. He took a bottle of an already warm beer, hugged so lovingly by the sleeping girl, out of her hands. Frozen peas don’t stay frozen for long, he learned.

In her sleep, Molly clutched the bottle with an unexpected strength.

‘Tough cookies, these Taylor kids.’ He cast one last long look at the girl, turned off the light, and left the bedroom.

HAHAHHAHA! I think I like this Dee.

I'd keep her around too, Molly.

Brian would be a good older brother. And someone great that Molly would have on her side.

Also can't Craig just fall off the face of the planet yet? Ugh. Hate him.

Finally got a chance to read this and it was awesome. Loved how loving Brian was in it - and I wanted to punch Craig so much - in fact I'd hold him for Brian
